Brits Buy The Most Bondage Gear

Recession in Britain is making scenes like this rarer, as shoppers pick up a sex toy at Tattoos & More in Causton in Midsomer County, despite the massive importation of bondage gear by the Brits. And my vote for the product mentioned at the end of the article is rope. It's the essence of bondage gear, really. Image source. The British tabloid "The Sun" reports that Brits imported more bondage gear than any other European nation. It's based on a survey conducted by online marketer Alibaba.com, which carries bondage gear among many other sorts of products. The article was accompanied by a weaksauce pic of a hottie in a leather teddy brandishing a whip, but not bound in any way. (As you can see, it's easily topped.)

Love dolls were reported to be the top seller in the general category of sex toys, responsible for four out of every ten purchases. The article speculated that the surge in blow up doll sales -- up 240 percent -- was due to the recession, with Brits seeking ways to have fun and stay home.

This is just sad. You can't afford to go out for the night and so you buy a sex doll to play with? I believe the proper response, even for hardened bondage freaks, is "Eeeeewwww!"

Fortunately, I doubt very much if there is a lot to the story, and there's not much to it to start with. The Sun was just looking for an excuse to get a mildly kinky, faux-bondage image into its pages. Success looks so much like failure, when you are a mainstream publication.

No word on what the most popular item of bondage gear was. Of course. But I'm confident about the answer I put in the caption above.

Questionable Content's Faye Gets The Tape Gag

Here it is, the only gag scene in the very popular web comic Questionable Content. Faye, a mouthy barista with a rapier wit is giving a shy girl a hard time and her boss Dora keeps telling her to shut up, and finally, out comes the duct tape.

There's also a scene where Marten, the comic's male lead, puts the sexy lesbian librarian in shibari bondage. As a favor. You'll have to find that one on your own.

In fact, Questionable Content, although it is not nearly as sexy as many webcomics (don't look for nudity) does have a supporting character who is a famous former bondage model (described as a "nouveau Betty Page"), that's Marten's mother, who modeled as "Veronica Vance." No images of her in bondage gear, but who knows what will come down the road eventually.

However, the point of Questionable Content is not the bondage, it's the funny, sharp writing. The female characters are snotty baristas who work at Coffee of Doom, and the wit and barbs are very tasty indeed. Mostly the strip is what I'd call a Marty Stu, very appropriately as the lead character is named Marten and has what amounts to a harem of hot young twenty-something women, all of whom think Marten is incredibly cute, despite his shyness and the ease with which he's flustered. However, Jeph Jacques the comic's creator, is well aware of Marten's flaws and has plenty of fun with him.

It all has a hazy stranger in paradise feel with young adults with healthy libidos agonizing over their relationships or lack of them, and the tasty wit makes it all worthwhile. I highly recommend you go to page 1 and read from the beginning.

It's interesting, the way the mainstream and bondage are closing ranks in all sorts of subtle and mostly unnoticed ways. Here we have an artist, Kennedy James, getting a grant to put chairs in shibari bondage. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "chair tie." I look at the photos and think, "This must mean something!" Well, that's art for ya! I'm totally missing the point of putting furniture in bondage. Perhaps it's a sly commentary on the whole human furniture bondage fetish. To me, it simply seems pointless, like so much of art.

But then, look at the sculptor! Hawt young indie girl type doing the bondage! Whoa! She looks like she could have come straight out of Coffee of Doom from Questionable Content. You gotta love it! Perhaps that is the point. I guess it is, as far as I'm concerned. I'm pretty sure I would not have written this article if James hadn't been so hot and sexy. YMMV!

Cecilia Cheung Gets Ball Gagged

Cecilia Cheung is a Chinese movie star of the sort who plays the lead in romantic comedies, sort of a Katherine Heigl equivalent. You see her here bound and ball gagged, an image which got pasted all over Chinese tabloids. The interesting thing about this particular sex scandal is that it's one of those crouching scandal/hidden photos things.

Her career never really took off until she was involved in the Edison Chen sex photos scandal, in which a series of photos of Chen having sex with several actresses of the time were stolen from Chen and pasted across the Internet back in 2008. (Google "Cecilia Cheung nude" with the safe search filters turned off to see the images, there are a LOT of them and they'll be right up at the top, including images of Cheung with cock in her face and pulling her labia apart ... apparently, it was a hell of a sex session.) People went to jail for it, as the photos were in fact outright stolen from Chen's camera. Worked for Cecilia Cheung, as the notoriety got her noticed.

Flash forward to 2011 and suddenly these pics of Cheung in bondage pop up. Everybody is scandalized. But there's a catch: these were not stolen or illicit images at all. They are actually scenes from a short film called "Captive" that Cheung made in the beginning of her career when she was a relatively unknown actress, that was publicly exhibited. This site has an excellent summary of how things went down plus more photos.

Since practically no one saw the short film and Cheung was a nobody at the time, it sort of passed under the bridge until somebody found the photos and realized a new sex scandal was in the making.

The pictures also had a dark undercurrent because Cheung's father was a member of a Triad, the notorious Mafia-gang-equivalents of China, and a "misunderstanding" he got into with a rival gang led to death threats and rape threats against Cheung early in her career.

All-in-all it was the equivalent of a Sandra Bullock "Fire on the Amazon" thing. (Bullock was a relative unknown when she made "Fire on the Amazon" nobody paid any attention to the film until she became an established star) except it was bondage instead of softcore sex, and except for the fact that no one here seems to give a flip about "Fire On The Amazon" -- quite appropriately, I think.

I do have a caveat, I'm looking at this Chinese scandal from a strictly American perspective, I don't know how much of a scandal it really was. In Japan, for example, many mainstream anime producers have also done echhi and hentai (adult anime) with no one really caring about it, and major film studios (Universal Pictures equivalents) have done softcore bondage porn (Wife to be Sacrificed, for example). So, I could have read this all wrong. But based on what I've read from the Chinese media, I think I'm fairly close.

Shibari Bondage Revisits the Mainstream

Here's a shot of Olga Kurylenko sexing it up while in shibari bondage in the French film, "Le Serpent." I'm thinking the titular serpent is a species of trouser snake, and Kurylenko's character, from the look of things, has become its slave. Here's a link to more and larger pics from the movie.

Olga Kurylenko, who's recently gotten a lot of press for being selected as a "Bond girl" for an upcoming James Bond movie, has also made another achievement. Kurylenko is the only actress in a mainstream film to follow the trail blazed by Tina Aumont in Lifespan where Aumont was the first actress to appear in shibari bondage for the first time in the history of mainstream movies. It has been over 30 years since that achievement, and Kurylenko is the first to appear in shibari bondage in a mainstream film since then. Interestingly, both movies are European in origin. When will the US realize it is losing the shibari bondage race, and losing it badly? Can a "shibari bondage gap" be far behind?
