It's all about the dramatic lighting and the intense expression Audrey wears combined with Mark's casual pose and thoughtful expression, the way the light hits Mark's arm and Audrey's back, and the way the image creates depth with a clearly defined background (the wall) middle ground (Mark's body) and foreground (Audrey's body, which also draws you in with the ladder angled slightly so that Audrey's shoulder is slightly closer to the viewer than her butt). 

This is art! And bondage porn. Sometimes they are the same.

Roy Rogers, Rough Rider?

Take it with many, many grains of salt, but there are allegations that Trigger and Dale Evans are not the only movie stars that Roy Rogers mounted and stuffed. According to an article in the National Enquirer (salt intake required), a fellow named Darwin Porter has written a new tell-all book about former porn star Linda Lovelace (more salt!) in which he claims that she claims that she hooked up with Roy Rogers -- and that Roy was a rough rider who liked to spank the fillies as he rode them.

"I feel sorry for Trigger," Lovelace is said to have told Rogers after her bottom-warming. Lovelace's encounter with Rogers came as part of a three-way tryst with another hooker (Lovelace was hooking for her brutal pimp husband Chuck Traynor at the time) during one of Roy's frequent visits to Los Vegas to get some of that rough riding action he didn't get at home with Dale Evans.

But that's not where Lovelace's revelations end. She also claimed that Rogers told her that he had given Marilyn Monroe the rough rider treatment too, spotting her during a parade and inviting her to his home for a barbecue, where Rogers and Monroe managed to slip away for some sexy time (poor Dale Evans).

It would be foolish to take any of these claims at face value, of course. I do not think that everything Linda Lovelace ever said was a lie, for instance, almost no one disagrees that her first husband Chuck Traynor was a brutal scumbag who beat her and pimped her. (Traynor claims it was all consensual "sex games" and that's why many folks are skeptical of BDSM, because every last filthy scumbag on Earth will instinctively use that excuse when accused of beating up his wife/lover/etc.). But much of what Lovelace has said has been discredited, she does seem to have been one of those women for whom the truth is a very malleable thing indeed, and there is plenty of evidence that she lied like a rug to please women like Catherine MacKinnon during her period as an anti-porn activist after she left porn.

So, lots of salt, yes, lots of salt, though I don't think it will keep her story from circulating, true or not, because liar or not, Lovelace DID have a talent for inventing lies that people would find entertaining, which is all that counts in the tabloid media.

Why 50 Shades Of Gray Is So Popular Now

There have been many theories offered about the success of 50 Shades of Gray, and of course I have one, and of course no one has offered anything like it to date, so I figure I better get it in there so it can be ignored by the mainstream media in favor of lame vaguely WTF articles.

It's always been my feeling that culture is ultimately more important than politics in determining what happens in society. Culture is not obvious, it does not have spokespersons, it is not something that people do because they THINK it is right, but because they FEEL it is right. Culture is more like the subconscious of a society, while politics is a conscious phenomenon. What is argued out tediously by political hacks, operatives and suchlike is in politics is often decided without discussion in culture ... it is only noticed after it has occurred, with the political hacks and operatives squabbling about it after the fact.

This is EXACTLY what has happened with regard to 50 Shades of Gray. The book became popular without any marketing campaign, there was no publisher pushing it on the mommies who liked it, it just took off all by its lonesome.

Now why did this happen? Here's where I get theoretical. I think it happened because the women who enjoyed the bondage and dominance themes in 50 Shades of Gray felt safe in enjoying the fantasies. Comfortable, even. And that's because the respect for choice for women has finally trickled down to middle class women, and they feel safe from being FORCED to do the things enumerated in 50 Shades of Gray. Because it's not fun if you are FORCED to do the things enumerated in 50 Shades of Gray. Not having a choice takes the fun out of just about everything.

Now, granted, women may never have legally been REQUIRED to put up with being tied up and spanked, but for much of US history, for all practical purposes, their husbands COULD do that, whether they liked it or not. And that takes the fun out of it unless you're REALLY into it, and maybe even then, for many women.

And the thing is, women need to FEEL safe to enjoy the fantasies in 50 Shades of Gray, which is a whole 'nother thing. And I think what 50 Shades of Gray means is, regular middle class women finally DO feel safe about bondage fantasies.

This is wonderful news, great news, and not just for bondage fans, but for everybody. Because it means that the psychological freedom that feminism has long fought for has trickled down to middle class and probably a lot of lower class women. And as I said in my article on The Feminist Sex Wars, consensual bondage can only thrive in an atmosphere of freedom, where men and women honestly feel that they are making choice when they say "No" to rape or "Yes" to bondage, or vice versa. If sexual bondage is not consensual, it's just thuggery, and the rub for men is, women have to FEEL that sense of consensuality, you can't just TELL a woman she has a choice, because she has to FEEL that she has a choice for it to be valid.

Well, nobody MADE 50 Shades of Gray a success except its readers. That huge swell that political types felt passing under their feet (but could not understand) while they squabbled in ideological terms about 50 Shades of Gray was millions of women feeling safe enough in their personal lives to enjoy fantasies of being bound and dominated. Because they felt free. A great thing for us all.

And you can tell from the puzzled, angry reactions of some feminists that they feel betrayed by the woman who have embraced 50 Shades of Gray. "We fought for your freedoms as well as our own, we helped make your right to choose possible, and THIS is what you choose? How COULD you?" Well, that's the way it is when you give people freedom ... they don't always choose in ways that you would like. But so long as they retain the freedom ... it'll be all right, eventually. Wait and see.

I highly recommend you hie yourself hence to the image link above and check out the full-size artwork. There are also lots of other images of naked women in chains, in dire peril, etc., executed with the same skill as this art.

From what I can tell the art is heavily post-processed via Photoshop and a few other programs, so it isn't exactly a still from a 3D animation, but damn ... can't argue with results like that!

Spanksgiving Grinches In Illinois

A bondage-themed exposition called Spanksgiving, scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend in Fairview Heights, Illinois, is getting hit with unexpected fees by a city council playing the usual dickish political games where matters sexual are concerned.

The council had initially told the organizers of Spanksgiving that their vendors would not have to pay the $50 fee the city charges for commercial events, as Spanksgiving was a nonprofit event. But lo and behold, minds got changed when the city council "did further research" into the event's activities and suddenly vendors have to pay the $50 fee. The council maintains they are just enforcing new rules, but since no other nonprofit events have had their vendors charges, it's obviously just garden-variety political dickishness. I suppose we should give thanks that they did not shut down the event completely, though they would probably have done so if they could have conjured up a legal excuse to do so.

I think the Fairview Heights town council needs a good spanking! And I also wish you all a happy Spanksgiving, and a happy Thanksgiving, too.

An Oldie But Goodie: Maitresse

This is chair bondage from a mainstream movie, but it is NOT comfy chair bondage. The woman's wrists are tied to the back of the chair, and of course her knees are tied wide apart. And of course, she's naked, with her vaginal bits hanging out there for all to see (almost never happens in US mainstream films). That's how it's done!

The French film Maitresse is what I would call an offbeat romance released in 1975. Written and directed by acclaimed French director Barbet Schroeder, it starred Gerard Depardieu as a good-natured burglar who gets involved with a professional dominatrix (Bulle Ogier) after an unsuccessful attempt to burglarize her leaves him cuffed to her radiator.

As Ogier's character is a dominatrix, most of the bondage is definitely femdom/malesub kinda stuff, but at the 38 minute mark there's the tasty femsub whipping scene I've made caps of, with the boyfriend sharing some hot kisses with his bound sub while Depardieu lays on.

What makes the scene stand out in my mind is the thoroughness with which the woman in the chair is bound. In the mainstream, even scenes that are all about the sexual bondage tend to feature feeble bondage scenes. This is NOT feeble stuff, perhaps because it's rumored that real-life French submissives played the submissives in the film (rumor even has it that they were not paid for their work, but rather paid for the chance to be in the film). And I did a quick scan of the scenes after the female bondage scene, it was all femdom/malesub stuff, so far as I could tell.

Along the same lines, there are supposed to be some scenes of torture that shocked audiences at the time (the movie is or was banned in Britain, not sure of the time frame) and that might be a product of using real-life subs as well. I haven't seen that section, as scenes involving torture squick me. Leave it for those who like it.
